“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

PROVERBS 3:5-6 (NIV)

C and tiring.

an I be honest with you? Trusting a process is not the easiest thing to do. We often have dreams, aspirations, and goals that we want to accomplish in life but the journey to get them often feels long, dreadful, Many days on my drive back and forth between Milwaukee and Madison, my mind would hover around the fact that I often felt that I should be further along in life. I should’ve won the lottery, own a mansion, have a partner–kids even. Yet, my reality seems to provide me with a different outcome.

On this particular drive, I was cruising down the highway, mostly with my phone in my hand – one of the crazy ways that I pass time during the hour or so drive – and during that time I thought about life. My thoughts are usually deep in the middle of the trip, so this time I was around Mile Marker 275.6. I called myself talking to God and asking Him some really hard questions, questions that seemed to always hover around the word, “Why?” You know, we sometimes do that when we recognize that we want things to be different than they are. We’re operating on our timing and not trusting God’s. Isn’t that ironic? We want what He has for us, but don’t want to abide by the timeframe that He wants to give it to us. How ungrateful is that, or how spoiled are we as His children? Nevertheless, during this moment of talking with God, I began to wonder why I wasn’t experiencing the seasons that I felt I should be in. Then, He did something that I didn’t necessarily expect. He told me. God said, “The reason why you’re not experiencing what you desire is because you’re not ready for it. You’re leaning into your understanding where I have bigger plans for you.”

Wow! How often do we seek and desire something but fail to know that even the grandest ideas and vision that we have for ourselves is nothing compared to what God has for us? How amazing is that?

After that conversation, I decided to shut up and trust the process and make sure that the things that I do now and in the future are aligned in His will for my life. We can dream dreams, have the biggest goals, but even in those moments, they are only glimpses into what God says that we can have. And the amazing part about it all is that it’s created and designed specifically for us!

As you continue to move throughout your day, I want to encourage you to trust the process and allow God to organize all of the opportunities that will come your way. However, while you wait, ensure that you make this your prayer: Dear God, allow me to be ready to handle every blessing that you have in store for me. If I am ready for it then I will honor the gift that you place before me. Amen.

God always knows what is best for us at the time when it will be best for us. Trust the process and his leading.

Keep moving forward,

Dr. Key
