The loudest voice in your life is usually not your boss, your partner, your parent, or social media. It is your own voice. And if your inner voice stays harsh, you can be surrounded by opportunity and still live like you are disqualified.
One of the simplest truths in Think. Speak. Manifest. is this: what you rehearse, you reinforce. The book calls out how “I’m not ready,” “I need more time,” and “I have to get it perfect” can sound responsible while quietly building agreements with fear. Those agreements become inaction.
That is why I talk about the Speak Shift. Speaking is not only what you say out loud. It is also what I share in the early pages, I share how I started using affirmations as truthful redirects, grounded in renewing the mind. I leaned on Bible language like Romans 12:2 to remind myself that transformation starts internally, then my steps catch up.
Now, let me add the credibility piece, because I know people some wonder if this is fluff.
Research on self-talk shows that the words we use can influence focus, emotional regulation, and performance. A meta-analysis of self-talk interventions found a moderate positive effect on performance outcomes. And when it comes to emotion regulation, cognitive reappraisal, changing how we interpret a situation, has been shown to reduce emotional intensity compared with suppression.
In everyday language, that means this: when your mind spirals, your words can either fuel it or calm it.
A simple “Script Swap” you can practice this week
-
Catch the line. Write the sentence your mind keeps repeating.
Example: “If I mess up, I’ll look stupid.” -
Swap the line with something honest and grounded.
Not hype. Not pretending. Grounded truth.
Example: “I can learn in public and still be respected.” -
Say it out loud once a day for 7 days.
You are training your brain what to reach for under pressure.
In the book, I call these “truthful redirects,” statements you return to when your mind tries to lock the door again.
You do not have to be loud to be powerful. You do have to be intentional with your voice, especially the one inside your head.
I hope this helps you.
